And all men kill the thing they love, By all let this be heard, Some do it with a bitter look,
Some with a flattering word, The coward does it with a kiss, The brave man with a sword!

Moon

A perfect little British indie Sci-fi film, wonderful story, great (if small) cast with a haunting score by Clint Mansell.  Go see it!  10/10

App to Investigate your MP

With all the fun we've been having in the UK, here's a lovely little web app on the Guardian's site to let you look at MP's expenses and review actual claims.  I've already reviewed my local MP and there are some discrepancies.

State of Play - Q & A Session

We tend to go to Cineworld to see films, their Sheffield cinema is huge with 20 screens (biggest in the UK) and they show a lot of world cinema, which we like.  Plus their digital now, with some good 3D etc, so it's a good cinema to attend.

For the film 'State of Play', out this week, they did a special event last night.  An advanced showing of the film, with a televised live Q&A with the director Kevin McDonald after the film beamed to 50 cinemas.  I'm not wasting time reviewing the film, it was a solid effort, with generally good acting and some snazzy if predictableplot points.  The reason we went was the Q&A.  Now, we'd hoped for some good insights into film making, maybe some info on this specific film.

Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In)

Bullying, friendship and revenge.  This Swedish horror film looks at 12 year old Oskar, bullied at school and wishing death to the bullies every night.  Eli moves in next door, a petite, girl who looks 12 years old too.  Except that she's a vampire.

This is a beautiful piece of cinema, from gentle storytelling to horrificly realistic scenes of violence, the story keeps well with the original book (the author also wrote the screenplay.)  Worth a look, even if they never use the only 3 Swedish words I know!

Watchmen

"Watchmen" is arguably the best comic ever written.  Winner of many awards (including a place in the Best 100 Novels), it’s a 12 issue series written in 1986 that helped to change the face of comics to give you the new style Batman that we know today.

India 2008

I spent about a month in India, travelling around the North - Delhi across to Kolkata via many different towns before returning to Delhi to return home.  Here's a link to my photos, try the slideshow option at the top.

History in the Making

I expected nothing like this.  But it seems I underestimated America.  Obama wins.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

The sequel to 2004s Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a great action comedy.  Full of interesting characters, witty dialogue and some stunning visuals, Del Toro once again shows that he's a very talented Director.

The Dark Knight

“And here we go.”

This is an amazing film from the talented Nolan/Bale dynamic duo.  After Batman Begins and The Prestige, they go further into the depths of the human condition – looking at how Batman and Joker are in fact just two sides of the same, scarred coin.
